Course Description This course provides a “hands-on” experiential work-based education that extends the learning process beyond the school into the workplace. It is a course that integrates classroom theory with practical experience and learning in the working world. Students are placed in workstations where they are provided with challenging tasks and responsibilities and they learn by doing. Students spend the equivalent of two or three periods (2 or 3 credits) normally on a daily basis, at the workplace. The course is based on a partnership between the school and business\industry, and involves the participation of students, teachers, employers and employee supervisors. Essential Learnings

understand and demonstrate the skills employers are looking for including attendance, punctuality and work ethic
know how to write a covering letter, chronological resume and business letter
know how to prepare for and behave in an interview situation for co-op placement and future employment
recognize their personality type and how it relates to their choice for placement and future career
recognize WHMIS symbols and practice safety procedures required in the workplace
communicate information and demonstrate employable skills related to future career choice and work placement through research, portfolio and seminar presentation.
